Details Hurt Obamas Plans

Remember during the presidential campaign neither candidate actually talked about the details of their plans? We had Obama saying that people who made under $200k would get a tax cut and McCain said he would cut taxes on businesses, but neither candidate actually talked about the details, they stayed high level. Of course nobody really cares about the details during an election, all anybody wants to hear are grand ideas and plans about where the new president will take us and what they are going to give everybody. It is also easier on the candidate. They don't have to memorize the details or have to worry about how segments of the electorate will react to the details.

Even between the election and the inauguration Obama didn't release many details. Many though that it was due to the fact that he didn't want to step on Bush. What did come out were vague suggestions to a stimulus plan and another bank bailout plan. The stock market reacted well to this. On November 20th the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI) closed at 7,552 a little over a month later on December 31st it closed at 9,034. They liked what Obama had to say, even though there were no details. By the time he was inaugurated the market had dropped to roughly 8,200 and since has dropped nearly another 1,000 points.

I attribute these losses to the details of the plan, or in some cases the lack of details. The market realized that the porkulus will do very little in the coming year to stimulate the economy and the new bank bailout is light on details and relies on private money that will be hard to raise. Would you buy troubled assets if you don't know what they are worth? They have come to the realization that once all of the speeches are over and when details are put on paper, politicians have no idea what to do.

What has made matters worse is that Obama is going around telling everybody how much worse it is going to get. Wow, so much for all that hope. At least W would go out and point out the good things in the economy, now we have a pessimist fueling the fire, I didn't realize Obama would channel Jimmy Carter. I have a suggestion for him, go back to your flowery speeches about nothing and get the government out of trying to fix the economy, because you are only going to make it worse.

Highest Gas Tax for Worst Roads

We pay the highest gas tax in the country in Washington yet our roads are terrible. About two weeks ago my carpool partner blew a tire and we had to change it on the way to work. His tires were old and he bought a brand new set of tires.

On Thursday of this past week we were driving home on the interstate and he his a pot hole so big that is startled me and jolted the car. On Friday we hit the same hole and this time it blew out the side wall of this tire. A tire that was a week old was ruined by poor road maintenance.

What are we paying the gas tax and our vehicle registration fees for? Probably so the governor can take it and pay for illegal aliens college scholarships.

Porkulus Jammed Down Our Throats

Well it happened, the left wing, aka Democrats, jammed a so called stimulus package down the throat of the American taxpayers in the last couple of days. This bill contained many pet projects of the liberals. The bill passed the House on Friday. I was listening to Glenn Beck that morning and he mentioned that the representatives got the bill at 7pm Thursday and had the vote at 9am the next morning. In order to read the bill they would have had to read over 600 words per minute. Mind you this is legalese.

On a local news report here, one of the representatives said that 90% of the calls to his office were against the stimulus package. This representative is in a very split district, he has won reelection by only a couple of percentage points the last two times. So why did the stimulus pass if the public is against it? The answer is that politicians don't care about what you think. You see they think they are smarter than the people and they know how to fix things. This is how socialist countries operate, the ones who have the power exercise it no matter what is good for the people.

The common rhetoric that comes from the liberal is that they are breaking away from the same old tired policies that lead to the economic mess. Really? Have they told the Fed to stop trying to fix the economy? That was one big cause that lead to the housing bubble. Has Barney Frank stopped passing legislation forcing banks to lend to those who couldn't afford it? Of course not. What did we get instead? Part of the bill calls for only purchasing American made products, or in other words, protectionism. I believe FDR tried this with his new deal, and how did that work out? During the 1930's unemployment remained above 15% for the entire decade.

Here we find the liberals trying to break from the policies that lead to the economic mess by going back to policies that were tried and failed during the 1930's. Not very smart.

Ronald Reagan took over a very poor economy in 1981. Instead of relying on government spending to fix the problem he cut the marginal tax rates. That set the stage for 20 years of growth. Was that a tired old policy?

I am proud of all but 3 conservatives. All Republican members of the House voted against the bill, while 3 Republican senators voted for it. I think these three people like to be powerful, and that is why they went along with it. They had the Democrats kissing their butts to get their votes.

During the campaign Barry called for us to rise above partisan politics. In his first major bill he and his liberal gang have gone further down the partisan road than we have been before. If only you had listened to me during the election.

Here is a website that goes much farther into the depth of pork in this bill.

Tired of Obama Yet?

So it's been about two weeks since Obama took over, I don't know about you but I'm already tired of him. Let's look at what he has done so far.

1. Proposed one of the biggest pork barrel spending bills in history. The stimulus plan is nothing but pork, but that is to be expected from a liberal like him. I saw a poll today and a majority of people are against the bill in its current form.

2. I believe he has signed at least 6 executive orders. In the first three days he signed five, that is more than the previous five presidents signed in their first three days combined. He is giving government money to overseas abortion groups and wants to close Gitmo and move the terrorists to the US. That doesn't make sense.

3. He nominated 3 tax cheats to government office. Two of them were cabinet nominees. Only one was approved but he will be in charge of the IRS, not exactly where we want a tax cheat.

The hypocrisy level of the Obama administration and the liberals is getting out of control. They keep saying how the rich need to pay more taxes yet the rich liberals are the ones who are avoiding paying taxes. Obama said during his campaign that we can't keep our thermostats at 72 anymore yet he keeps the oval office so hot that they have to take their suit coats and ties off.

Is this what he meant by change? To make the government even more corrupt than it is? Yes we can... cheat on our taxes. Yes we can... waste your money. Yes we can... stop him by calling your senator and telling them to oppose the bill to stimulate the growth of government jobs.

I'm already tired of this fool. I think Hillary Clinton was right, he is not ready to be the President and it is showing. He lied to us in the campain. Some of us saw through it, but not enough. Hopefully we will wise up in four years.
