Tea Parties Misunderstood by Left

Was there any doubt that the left would attack the tea party and their participants? I first read this opinion by Alan Colmes, who I think used to be on TV, I'm surprised anyone watch his show because he doesn't make any sense.

First he compares our tax to the rest of the world, mainly Europe. I have news for you, we aren't Europe and I don't want to be Europe. Historically Europe has had lower growth and higher unemployment than us, mainly because of their "progressive" programs. What Colmes doesn't understand is that taxes and entitlement programs are the government's way of enslaving the population.

He says that the government can run things well, and he gives the military as an example. The military is not run by the bureaucrats and politicians that run the rest of the government, it is run by officers and enlisted personnel who work a lot longer and harder than the rest of the government, I know I was there.

He then goes on to list the things that the Federal Government pays for and asks when are we going to stop using those or call for an end to those. First everybody uses the military so he shouldn't have even mentioned it here, secondly the other things he lists should not be Federal Government programs. Finally he says we should show gratitude for our freedoms and our low tax rates.

He falls into the same trap as a lot of people. We don't have low tax rates. Add it all up, Federal income tax, social security, medicare, sales tax, state income tax, phone tax, cigarette tax, alcohol tax, gas tax (federal and state), capital gains, interest, dividends (which are actually taxed twice), and I'm sure you can probably think of more.

The liberals also miss the point of the tea parties. I have heard the left saying in response to the tea parties, that under Obama's plan only the top 2% will pay higher taxes. The tea party attendees realize that this isn't true, with all of the bailouts, additional discretionary spending and entitlements, taxes will have to be increased across the board. You cannot run deficits forever. The tea parties are against huge increases in government spending while Americans are cutting back, they are against the socialization of our economy and they are against the higher taxes that will come.

We must look past the next two or five years and look into what we are doing to future generations. All of this spending will add to the debt that they must pay off. In order to do this they will face crippling tax rates that will destroy our economy. That is what the tea parties are trying to prevent. These people get it, when will the people who are supposed to represent us catch up with them?
