Ballard Denny's Torn Down

If you live in the Seattle area chances are that you have either seen, heard or read about the old Denny's that was torn down in Ballard. The building was built in the 1960's and a lot of people wanted it designated as a landmark.

Come on are these people serious? I put a picture up so you can tell for yourself if it is a landmark or not. Over the years how many McDonald's and Burger Kings have been torn down? Probably too many to count, and now we are trying to save a Denny's because we think it has a certain style of architecture. It's called progress people. If every time somebody blocked the destruction of an old building we would still be living in mud huts.

The building was boarded up and the land is much more valuable being sold than being operated as a restaurant. The owner wanted to sell it to developers which is his right. It was wrong of the government to interfere in this issue and designate the site a landmark in the first place. One of the key rights we have in this country is the right to own property and to use and dispose of that property in any legal manner. By blocking the sale and demolition of this building the government is once again encroaching on our rights.

For all of the people protesting, how would you feel if you were forbidden to sell your property to a developer? What if your retirement depended on it? I doubt the protesters would have been out there had it negatively affected their bank account.

You seem to have missed the point here. The real issue is that the Denny's was closed in the first place. Where am I supposed to go for Moons Over My-Hammy now? As an added bonus, that Denny's actually had a lounge. If you don't understand the significance of this, I can't help you. I'm so very sad.
